What you can switch, and to what

  • Text features (note generation and summaries, cleanup, chat, voice assistant, translation): OpenAI.
  • Dictation: OpenAI or Mistral.
  • Note recording (the consultation transcript): OpenAI.

Each feature is set separately in Settings › AI providers. Every one starts on Local. Evidence search never uses these providers: it always searches PubMed directly.

A warning before anything is sent

The first time you choose a provider, Doctify stops and asks: text or audio you process with that provider, which may include patient information, is sent to it using your API key. Use it only if you have an agreement with the provider that covers health data, for example a BAA (in the US) or a data processing agreement, with zero data retention. You can go back to Local at any time.

Your keys are stored encrypted on your computer with the system keychain. Doctify never sees them, and the data goes from your computer to the provider, not through us.
