What stays on your computer

  • Consultation and dictation audio, transcribed by a local speech model.
  • Transcripts and notes, stored on your computer.
  • Note drafting, run by a local AI model by default.
  • De-identification of anything you want to search.

Cloud AI is switched off in the app and refused at several layers, including the network layer, except for the one option you can turn on yourself, below.

What can leave it, and when

  • Approved PubMed searches. When you use evidence search, the de-identified search you have read and approved goes to PubMed. Nothing else is sent with it.
  • Optional cloud AI with your own key. Off by default. If you choose OpenAI or Mistral for a feature, after a warning, that feature's text or audio goes to that provider with your key. See bring your own AI.
  • Update checks. The app checks Doctify's own GitHub releases for updates, at launch and every few hours, while “Check for updates automatically” is on. You can turn it off and check by hand.
  • Model downloads. Speech, AI and de-identification models are downloaded from Hugging Face or GitHub when you install them. Your notes are not sent.

No training on your data

Your audio and notes are not sent to us, so we cannot use them to train AI models, and we do not. If you turn on a cloud provider with your own key, that provider's terms apply to what you send it.

The engine is built on OpenWhispr, an open-source project under the MIT licence, so you or your IT team can check how it handles data.

Doctify does not claim a certification. Keeping data on your computer means there is less to protect, but compliance depends on how you use it and on your own policies.
